February Recap

Off to a lazy start (again) this year, but at least I’m staying consistent from year to year! Here’s what I’ve been up to over the past month:

11. Work out 10 times a month. A Mexican vacation was just the motivation I needed.

13. 1 new thing each month. I took a Mexican vacation! I had only been to Mexico one other time, and that was to Cozumel when we stopped there during a cruise. This was a much different experience, as it was more of a beach vacation and we were close to the main area of Playa del Carmen, so we got to explore the town a little bit too. I will definitely be taking another Mexican vacation at some point in my life.

20. Watch a sunrise.

23. Read 1 professional development book each month. This month I read Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us by Daniel Pink. Most people would agree that money is a pretty high motivator when it comes to work and rewards, but through the research of psychologists Daniel shows us that this is not true. In this book he discusses intrinsic (from within) motivation versus extrinsic (outward) motivation. This is a great book if you need help motivating your team in a productive way. It also has a section in the back about how to apply this to real-life situations (like how to awaken your motivation, ways to improve your company, how to pay people without “if-then” rewards, ideas to raise/teach children, and a fitness plan).

28. Watch 1 Oscar-winning movie each month. This month I watched Philadelphia, which won Best Actor in a Leading Role (Tom Hanks) and Best Music, Original Song (Bruce Springsteen, “Streets of Philadelphia”). This movie came out in 1994, so I was too young to watch it when it first came out. If you haven’t seen it, I would highly recommend it.
